Choosing a wedding band
Start with the ring it will sit beside. A band worn against an engagement ring should follow its line — a curved or contoured band closes the gap under a raised centre stone, while a straight band suits a low setting or a flush one. Matching the metal matters less than people expect; two colours worn together looks deliberate, not accidental.
Then width and profile. Narrow bands of around 2mm disappear into the hand and stack easily; 4mm and above read as a piece in their own right. A rounded, comfort-style inside edge is worth choosing if the ring never comes off, because it is the inside of a band, not the outside, that decides whether you notice it at the end of a long day.
One practical warning before you fall for a design. A band set with stones the whole way round — a full eternity — cannot be resized later, because there is no plain metal to cut and rejoin. If there is any doubt about the finger size, or if fingers change with the years as most do, a half eternity or a plain-backed band leaves you options a full eternity never will.
Wedding band FAQs
Does the wedding band have to match the engagement ring?
No. Matching metals gives a seamless look and mixing them gives contrast — both are worn widely. What matters more is the shape: if the engagement ring sits high or flares at the base, a contoured band will lie flat against it where a straight one will not.
What width should I choose?
Around 2mm for a band that sits quietly beside another ring, 3mm to 4mm as a comfortable middle, and 5mm or more for a band meant to stand alone. Wider bands feel tighter at the same size, so allow for that if you are ordering by measurement alone.
Can an eternity band be resized?
A full eternity band cannot — stones run the entire circumference and there is no plain section to work with. Half eternity and plain bands can usually be adjusted, depending on the design. Ask us before ordering if you are unsure of the size.
Which karat wears best day to day?
10k is the hardest of the three and the most resistant to scratching; 18k has the richest colour and is the softest. 14k sits between them and is the usual choice for a ring worn continuously. All three are solid gold throughout, not plated.
How long before the wedding should I order?
Every band is made to order, so allow the production time shown at checkout plus a margin for sizing. Ordering two to three months ahead leaves room to adjust the fit without anything becoming urgent.
